LG LFC20760 Review

We bought an LG French Door refrigerator a couple of years ago, because of the benefits of the design, and the fact that the LG, unlike many bottom-freezer models, has solid, rather than wire baskets, so it holds cold air better.

Unfortunately, after a couple of months, it started to make a loud noise, and eventually shut down with "Er FF" on the display. This happens when the fan isn't working, and turns out to be a common problem in these models. Apparently, ice builds up around the fan because the drainage is poorly designed.

While there is extensive discussion of this problem on the internet (including a fix that unfortunately voids the warranty), there has not been any mention that it's been fixed in newer models. Search for `lg "er ff"` on Google - you'll get over 4,000 hits. And LG's service network in the US has not demonstrated that they place customer satisfaction high (or anywhere that I can determine) on their list of priorities.

We know two other families who have replaced their LG French Door refrigerators because of this problem. Foolishly, because ours is still under the expensive 3-year extended service plan that we bought to protect us in the event of such problems, we have not gotten rid of it, yet, and are still trying to get it fixed (it's had the problem for two years). I plan to invoke our state's lemon law, but I would like to save the rest of you the trouble by advising you not to buy this product.

These products have excellent features and would be a good value if their reliability were proven, but for this series of refrigerators, the evidence clearly speaks against that.
