Samsung : RF267ABWP 26 cu. ft. French-Door Refrigerator - White Pearl Review

Samsung : RF267ABWP 26 cu. ft. French-Door Refrigerator - White PearlIce/water dispenser - negatives: requires you to push a button to cycle through water, cubes, crushed. Dispenser allows a drip of water to fall outside of cup if you pull it away in a normal natural fashion (not enough to be problematic but still annoying). We might not have noticed this as a problem if we hadn't switched from a fridge that had ice and water dispensed from separate openings so you could get ice water one-handed. Cubes are a bit small and water dispenses slowly. Water filters are spendy. Positives: The icemaker is pretty compact inside the fridge and having a door dispenser does not hit seem to the unit's efficiency too hard. Water tastes good, and this is a relatively economical way to get filtered water. Has LED auto-on and auto-off light on dispenser

Exterior: the white handles look cheap, but they feel solid and nice. The freezer handle has to lift up to pull out, which my toddler figured out in about 4 seconds flat. If the fridge gripper feet are not tightened, the whole unit may move when you pull out the freezer - annoying if you like to have it loose to clean around it all the time; I don't like getting down there to loosen and tighten the feet. But it's a good compromise. The fridge front is quite convex, and it looks just plain colossal in our 1960s kitchen - definitely better suited to a newer home. I haven't tried to clean the finish yet, and I'd be surprised if it didn't scratch fairly easily with something like a Magic Eraser, but it's so slick that stuff should come off easy. The front is low so that only the very smallest toys can slip under there - I haven't had any of our plastic alphabet get lost.

Inside: lower-high-end to higher middle, was my impression after shopping. Nice solid shelves. I didn't go for the special wide drawer, because I could tell it would break with the abuse in our household, and it isn't very useful considering you have to open both doors to get into it. I'm glad I didn't -- however, there does seem to be some wasted headspace now. The door holds milk jugs, and there seems to be an extra rack/door box; I can't get all of them to fit in a way that seems practical because they are so deep. Humidity controls on the crispers really make a difference, nice! The drawer durability is probably about average. In the freezer, the movable divider on the bottom is so-so design - freezer has to be pretty much completely empty to move it. The wheels on the inner drawer are nylon and probably won't outlast the fridge, especially if it gets heavily loaded often, but they seem better than other brands in this range. The freezer feels spacious - you can pile stuff pretty high - I am very happy.

Has an alarm if you leave the door open (or you can turn the alarm off), which as you may suspect, means that it's too easy to leave the door open. The left hand door won't swing gently shut but has to be pushed. Interior lights are bulbs, which I think is a plus because who knows how long that LED stuff really lasts ... I *know* how to change a bulb.

I didn't want the digital display, but it seems to be the thing now, so I'm grudgingly enjoying being able to monitor the temp and set it exactly to a particular temp. It holds the temp really well even after repeated opening, and you can tell it to "power cool" the fridge or freezer if it gets warm. Oh, and there are control thingies under a panel at the front of the top of the fridge, which you can't see but it is very annoying if you like to store things for easy access on top of the fridge.

Overall I'm pretty happy with it - very decent quality fridge for under 2k, one of the more efficient ones with an ice dispenser, without an excess of unnecessary bells and whistles to break, and no more design annoyances than average.
