Cuisinart CWC-1200 Private Reserve 12-Bottle Countertop Wine Cellar, Stainless Steel Review

Cuisinart CWC-1200 Private Reserve 12-Bottle Countertop Wine Cellar, Stainless SteelI purchased my original Private Reserve Wine Cellar, Model CWC-1200, in November, 2007 through Amazon.com.

I was having persistent condensation problems with the unit, so I returned it under warranty and received a new unit just a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, I am having the same problem with the new unit. The plastic tray at the bottom of the unit fills up with water within a couple of days. I have the unit in an air conditioned room. I can't believe I am the only person having this problem, although Cuisinart would have me believe that.

Igloo FRW080 8-Bottle Wine Cooler, Black Review

Igloo FRW080 8-Bottle Wine Cooler, BlackI have had this cooler for five months and have been impressed with it's performance ever since the first use.The cooler takes 4 bottles of wine from room temperature down to 60 deg within a few hours.

I researched proper temps for my red wine and the consensus on the web seems to be 55, give or take 5 degrees.I have the unit set at 55 degrees on the control panel. The actual internal temperature measures 57.5 degrees (using a calibrated thermometer).

Occasionally we will shut off the AC in the house when no one is home for an extended period. When the house is very warm, like 86 degrees, the wine cooler interior will rise to about 60 deg.Which is still a "safe" range.

I have a couple of the taller wine bottles that measure 13" tall. The door closes fully and there is still almost 1/2" to spare.

It runs very quietly, you can just barely hear the fan if there is no other noise in the room. The glow from the display is amazingly bright, it literally lights up the entire room at night. On the other hand the blue interior LED light is just the opposite, it barely lights up the interior.More of a mood light, I guess.

The controls are intuitve, one button for raising the temp, one button to lower it, and the interior light button.Press either up or down and you'll see your setpoint flash on the display for 5 seconds, then the display returns to normal display of the interior temperature.

This unit is a steal at $80 including delivery!!

Haier HVUE12ABB 12-Bottle Wine Fridge W Led Review

Haier HVUE12ABB 12-Bottle Wine Fridge W LedI bought this wine storage because it's hot here in Texas. You just can't keep wine in a rack. This wine storage does the trick. I agree with others, looks great, and the LED is awesome.I like the internal lighting too, not blue, but blue hue, actually LED lighting.Nice for seeing what you have inside because it's dark in there.

Let's be clear, this is not a refrigerator, and yes it's dead quiet and doesn't vibrate. The lowest internal temperature is 27 degrees below external room temperature. For example, I keep my home at 80, lowest internal will be 53 degrees.I set the unit for 56 degrees. It stays there.I'm happy.

I keep red and white wine in it.Standard white wine bottles are larger than red, no problem. The three racks are at different heights. The upper hold a red bottle. The middle one is about the height for a fatter white wine bottle, and the lowest, to my surprise will hold a bottle of Dom Perignon 1990.It will hold a bottle longer than a standard white, but I'm sure not the few real long ones you see around, and you can put something a little longer in if you take out the lower rack, and even a fatter bottle of champagne if you take out the lower rack, but I'm not going to mess with that.I'd just drink that bottle.Guess were simpler about things here in Texas.

It fits easily on a standard kitchen counter, but there has to be space at the back, or it will not cool properly. The intake fan is dead center in the back, and there needs to be space for warm air convection, they say 2 inches all around the unit. It's really at the back, but the air has to go somewhere besides back into the intake fan.

Also, there are some really good deals on this wine storage out there, so shop it.Check the return policy!!!They are going to ship this thing in the box, just slap a shipping label on it.I'll tell you now, the box is inadequate for shipping, more designed for squeezing as many as possible in a container from China.

Also, the feet are inside the unit, the shortest one goes on the hinge corner, and if you put this thing on the counter before you put the feet on, you will scratch you counter.

This a great deal, but be reasonable. This thing only costs about $80, and is only a little bigger than if you put the case of wine on it's side on your counter, just a whole lot cooler.

**** Thought I better add this. This great little wine cooler died after 3 weeks.I bought it from one of the lower priced providers on the net. There were some other reviews that complained about short life, but I thought I would take a chance.Bad idea.Advise you to check the provider's return policy before buying.Better yet, buy from a local retailer.

Wine Cooler Review

Wine CoolerWe got this refrigerator about 4 months ago and have really enjoyed it.We needed to keep the budget low and this fit the bill. We've had no problems with it, mechanically - it runs great, keeps the wine cool, and has enough room for our needs. When it arrived, the manual described variable temperatures at different levels of the fridge, this is not so!The fridge is all one temperature. Also, we keep it on the lowest setting and this seems good for our white wine.I wouldn't put reds in there and I wouldn't turn it any colder for the whites!

Vinotemp VT-24S 24-Bottle Wine Chiller, Black and Silver Review

Vinotemp VT-24S 24-Bottle Wine Chiller, Black and SilverI love this little wine cooler. My previous wine storage system consisted of several cardboard boxes. I bought this little cooler and it is perfect for my needs.

It is small and compact & fits nicely in my 1000 sq ft condo. It is beautiful, black & stainless. The cooling fans are so quite I never even know it is running. The front temperature display is easy to see & use. The door is reversible.

I think it is a great value for the price.

The drawbacks: it has only 1 temperature zone, champagne bottles do not fit unless a rack is removed, it has a delicate circuit board. I tripped off a circuit breaker & when I tripped it back on I fried the board. Vinotemp was great. They sent a new circuit board & hubby removed the old board & soldered in the new one. In the future, if the circuit breaker trips I will unplug it before turning the circuit back on.

Avanti 30 Bottle Digital Wine Cellar (1-Temp - Built-In) (Stainless Steel Trim Glass Door Review

Avanti 30 Bottle Digital Wine Cellar (Stainless Steel Trim Glass DoorThe fridge is fine, but NO customer service. The first one leaked freon from the moment it was plugged in. They finally replaced it.... but what a nightmare!Their people are unhelpful, do not return messages, and give you zero support. When they finally shipped the replacement, I couldn't understand why it was WEEKS late. Finally I tracked it down -- first, they'd shipped it late, second, they hadn't bothered to tell me when it was being shipped, and finally -- I love this part, since it'sa snapshot of the whole process --- even when I got ahold of them, they never told me that it was a special delivery and UPS would hang onto it until I called them and arranged a special delivery. I tried to complain, the service dept wouldn't take my calls, even the President refused to take calls. If you have any choice, don't do business with Avanti -- decent products, terrible service and treatment of customers.

ADDENDUMSo, it's now 3 months since the replacement arrived and this one is going bad too. Apparently the fan is shot. Just not quality products. My advice is spend the extra and buy from one of the better manufacturers.

The Wine Enthusiast 48-Bottle 2 Zone Wine Cellar - Stainless Steel Review

The Wine Enthusiast 48-Bottle 2 Zone Wine Cellar - Stainless SteelPros:
1) 2 sides so you can keep different temps
2) Looks nice
3) Quieter than compressor 'cellars'
4) Keeps temperature

Cons:
1) Doesn't fit 48 bottles
2) Pinot bottles don't easily fit
3) Racks scrape labels
4) Light only illuminates top 2 rows
5) Doesn't get as cold as documented/advertised

I read all reviews before purchasing and knew going in about the first 4 `Cons' I've listed, but I was okay with that. What I had not read anywhere was `Con'# 5 (the unit's inability to get as cold as documented), so I will focus on that...

First things first, the manufacturer (Wine Enthusiast) states the internal temperature range is 50 - 66 F +/- 7 degrees.Although they state the proper temperature for both whites and reds is between 53 and 57 I have to disagree.I have read and discussed with many `wine enthusiasts' (wine makers, store owners, and drinkers) the proper chilling temp for white is 45 - 47 F.I `assumed' (bad idea) that I could set each side at 50 F and expect to have the lower sections reach 43 F.Therefore I could chill whites on the lower shelves and reds on the upper shelves.I figured this would meet my needs and decided to purchase the unit.

I ordered the fridge from Amazon and received it within days.I anxiously unpacked it, plugged it in, set the temp to 50 F on both sides, placed a couple tester bottles in it from my other chiller and waited.24 hours later I grabbed the bottles and tested the bottle temp (using an infrared thermometer - used to test surface temperature). To my surprise the lower bottles on each side were only 54 - 55 F, while the upper bottles were as warm as 59 F.Thinking my gun needed calibration I decided to test the internal temp of the unit.I placed two thermometers at the bottom of the left side (one digital and one analog/liquid) and waited another 24 hours.I checked each thermometer and sure enough the left side was only getting as low as 54 degrees (I repeated the test on the right side, same results).

I phoned Wine Enthusiast and they told me to unplug the unit, wait a couple hours, and plug it back in to `reset' the thermostat.I did that and conducted the same test (with all three thermometers) 24 hours later and received the exact same results.I called back the next day and spoke to a technical representative who said possibly a board was bad and they would ship me another unit.

The shipment came about a week later and again I conducted the same tests. This time the temperature range was 51 - 53 F (lower section to upper section, respectively).I checked the temperature over the next several days and it never wavered (51 F lower section, 53 F upper section - both sides). So although the temperature was steady it was not cold enough to truly `chill' white wine.

After contemplating my options I decided to keep the unit and store only reds in it.I think it would be fine for storing whites as well but not for chilling.I have another unit that goes as low as 41 (actually tested at 37 F) so I use that for my whites and the Wine Enthusiast for my reds.

Solutions for common issues:

To resolve pinot bottle storage, I remove the top rack and store pinot bottles on the next available rack (only 2 per side will fit comfortably) but this reduces total capacity by 8 bottles. The top rack is pretty much useless due to its proximity to the thermostat anyway.

To resolve the scraping, I use a 3 - 2 - 3 configuration.I flip every other rack upside down and this prevents scraping (but it reduces the storage capacity by another 6 bottles).

Bottom Line, there are a lot of bargain wine `cellars' out there and from what I've read all have issues. However, I would not recommend this one to anyone wanting to chill whites. If you only want to store reds then maybe this is for you, but don't be fooled into thinking it can store anywhere near 48 bottles (I think the total is closer to 32).

Vinotemp VT-50SBW 50-Bottle Wine Cooler with Digital Display Review

Vinotemp VT-50SBW 50-Bottle Wine Cooler with Digital DisplayI had shopped around for a decent wine cooler.Target, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowes, Sam's, online, you name it.I did not want to spend $1000.00 on a 50 bottle cooler, but all of the products at the aforementioned places were cheaply made. Not all had wire racks and the ones that did slid out like an oven shelf. All of the wood grain trim items had plastic shelves. This item has wire racks that slide out on fully extendable ball-bearing glides with real wood facing.I think it will hold a full 50 bottles too.It is slightly noisy especially compared to my GE Profile kitchen appliances.Probably as loud as a bathroom vent. Also, keep in mind it is single zone.I think it is overpriced at $1000.00 because I was able to find this product at my Costco Warehouse for less than $500.00.$500.00 it is a steal, $700.00 good buy, $1000.00 plus shipping I would keep looking.

GE Profile : PCR06WATSS 24in Wine Center with a 57 Bottle Capacity Review

GE Profile : PCR06WATSS 24in Wine Center with a 57 Bottle CapacityI recently purchased this unit as a part of a full kitchen remodel.Unfortunately, upon attempting to transfer part of my wine collection I found the unit completely unsuitable.Because the unit attempts to fit 57 bottles into a relatively small space (note GE also sells a 29 bottle unit with a capacity of 4.3 cubic ft, compared to this unit's 5.5 cubic ft), the unit will not fit many 750 ml (standard capacity) wine bottles. Most Bordeaux style bottles (which have a pronounced shoulder below the neck and are basically cylindrical below the shoulder) will fit. However, many Burgundy style bottles (which taper gradually outward below the neck and are usually wider at the bottom) will not.The latter type of bottles bump up against the shelf above when the shelf they rest on is opened or closed. This kind of vibration is very bad for collectible wines, and a significant percentage of producers around the world (including the U.S.) use Burgundy style bottles.

In fairness, I have contacted GE about this problem and will edit this review if I receive a satisfactory response.Until then, I would highly recommend even wine novices steer clear of this product. There are multiple options in the $300-600 price range that have slightly less capacity but fit the vast, vast majority of 750 ml bottles.

Avanti : WC400SS 20in Wine Cooler - 40-Bottle CapacityTwo years after buying the unit the compressor went out.I called their office in Florida and was told by a VERY rude "customer service" rep. that there is nothing they can do.She said the compressor is warranted for five years but I have to have in removed it and ship it to them for replacement.Unbelievably she could not recommend a single repair shop in Arizona that worked on Avanti's.I called several shops and they all said the Avanti's are sealed and I was looking at about a $900.00 repair (for a cooler I paid $650 for) and a minimum of six weeks until completion.I'm buying another unit however; I will never buy another Avanit!

Vinotemp VT-16TEDS Thermo-Electric Digital 16-Bottle Wine Chiller, Black and Stainless Review

Vinotemp VT-16TEDS Thermo-Electric Digital 16-Bottle Wine Chiller, Black and StainlessI guess I was lucky compared to others, I got 18 months out of it. The temp display went out and I had the ticking noise that other reviews mentioned. It could not handle a warmer room (couldn't keep the temp I had set it at) but simply moving elsewhere solved the problem. I'm glad I got it on clearance and only spent $50, but I don't recommend it at any other price. I wonder if ANY of the smaller free standing units last, at least one that is affordable. Seems like most reviews complain they only last 6-18 months.

Haier HVT12ABS 12-Bottle-Capacity Table-Top Wine Cellar, Black with Silver Trim Review

Haier HVT12ABS 12-Bottle-Capacity Table-Top Wine Cellar, Black with Silver TrimFirst, let me start by addressing the other reviews that have been critical of the quality of the Haier Tabletop Wine Cellar.I've used mine for over a month with no issues, and I believe I may have an explanation for others' perceived problems. The unit works by cycling a cooling fan on and off as needed, so it doesn't continuously run like most refrigerators do.Also, its thermostat is extremely particular, i.e. if it senses that it's cold enough, you can't turn it down low enough to force the fan to kick on.Finally, remember that this is a wine cooler, not a mini-fridge, and that wine isn't meant to be kept as cold as other beverages. We have our unit stored in a pantry on the coldest corner of our house and it keeps the wine right while barely running the fan. These circumstances could lead to a misperception that the unit has completely stopped working when in fact, it's just accurately having an "off" cycle. If my Wine Cellar ever does truly stop working, I'll certainly update this review.

Potential dependability issues aside, there are still critical problems with the Tabletop Wine Cellar that keep it from being a realistic solution for most people. The most immediate one is size - when you pull it out of the box, you'll scratch your head wondering whether or not you really picked up the model for "Tabletop" use.Somewhere in the world, counters must be much deeper than where I live!I can't verify the dimensions that are quoted above, but the depth seems suspiciously small.Plus, the instructions for the unit specify that it needs several inches of clearance on the back and sides for ventilation.Taking this additional space into consideration, the Cellar is about the size of a microwave oven but much deeper. Our solution was to put it sideways on a microwave cart in a separate room;however, having to do so is a pretty big deviation from the way that it's advertised. In case you're planning on building it into a cabinet or bar as a workaround, the instructions prohibit that as well (again for ventilation concerns).

The second issue is that even as big as the Wine Cellar is on the outside, it's ironically cramped on the inside.Any bottle bigger than 750 mL will not fit unless you remove one of the wire racks, thus reducing it to an eight-bottle capacity (four 750 and four larger ones).Even if you stick with the standard bottle volume, some unusually-shaped bottles will still not fit.For instance, we found that the extra tall, skinny bottles of Chateau Ste. Michel have to be put in diagonally so that basically only one bottle fits per shelf and then you've got to be careful that it doesn't roll out when you open the door.

On the positive side, the unit is very quiet - even when the fan is running, it's no louder than the fan on a new PC.It's also attractively styled in black with the appearance of a brushed pewter frame for the glass door. The door seal and hinge both feel solid and sturdy. The thermostat actually does result in a range of temperatures, but this of course precludes storing white and red together.

To sum up, the Haier Wine Cellar attempts to do the impossible - providing a chiller spacious enough for a case of wine yet compact enough to fit neatly on a kitchen countertop - but ultimately can't quite do it.I haven't experienced any of the motor failure problems that others have described (yet);mine has been a reliable performer.Unfortunately, the additional workaround of where to keep the unit and what to do about the bottles that won't fit in it reduce the Wine Cellar to much less than a hassle-free solution.

PROS
*Cooling fan is very quiet when running
*Accurate thermostat provides a range of temperatures for whites vs. reds

CONS
*Way too large to realistically sit on any countertop
*Can't accommodate large or unusually-shaped wine bottles
